American actress. After numerous supporting roles in the 1990s, she starred in the film
Cruel Intentions and the short-lived TV series
Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane in 1999. She has since had notable roles in Hollywood feature films such as
Legally Blonde (2001),
The Sweetest Thing (2002), and
Hellboy (2004).
Biography
Early life
Blair was born
Selma Blair Beitner in
Southfield,
Michigan, the daughter of Molly Ann and Elliot Beitner. She has three older sisters, Katherine (a book publicist), Elizabeth, and Marie. Blair attended a
Jewish day school and
Cranbrook Kingswood school in
Bloomfield Hills. She attended
Kalamazoo College in Michigan, then later transferred to the
University of Michigan, where she earned her
bachelor's degree in 1994.
Career
After training at the
Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting, Blair began acting in a few small roles during the early
1990s. Blair and Witherspoon later starred together in
Legally Blonde (2001). Blair played the wife of
Greg Kinnear's character in the film
Feast of Love in 2007.
Personal life
Blair was married to
musician Ahmet Zappa on
January 24 2004,
